  1. Article: From a Facebook Founder Comes a Way to Streamline Work Flow

Summary: A co-founder of Facebook decided he did not like the current approach to social networking in companies. He believes that a business' network should not look like Facebook, but should focus on what makes work easier and faster. His network, called Asana, acts as a company's collaborative To-Do list. It allows businesses to stop wasting time on socializing, and allows employees to organize and order tasks by importance.

This relates to Friedman's The World is Flat, because one flattener describes work flow software. In the book, the author explains work flow programs that made collaboration possible in the early computer age. Likewise, the article brings forth an example of how modern technology can improve the way work gets done. Now, instead of all focus being on software, programmers can look toward using the new obsession with social networks to help businesses.

In this article titled "Prophets of zoom", it talks about how "Zoomable" software makes it possible for information to be included on a slideshow in its entirety, rather than having to be broken up in order to fit. The space is unlimited, and the presenter can zoom in and out of photos for more detail. In a program like Prezi, the presenter can travel around their canvas, and present in any order they want, with the press of a button. In the future, America's Department of Energy are hoping to create a software that allows them to explore nuclear behaviors electronically, and in greater detail.

This relates to the third flattener "Work-Flow Software" in "The World is Flat" because the key point in this chapter is about how software changed the way we search the Web. Not only that, but software allows for users to make anychanges to any document they desire. Without software, searching the Internet would take forever, and only a limited amount of information would be able to fit on an electronic presentation. Both the chapter and the article magnify this electronic advantage.

  4. In the article "Increasing Connectivity Propels Awareness" it talks about how in this new age of technoligy the world is expanding, or flat, for people to be able to do more things on the internet, world wide web, or with other software.

This shows that the third flattener in "The Wirld is Flat" is proven to be right in making the world smaller and flat. We can now connect with more people at a time from different parts of the world and even different software programs. This made it easier on companies around the world and made the playing feild a little more fair than what it once was. Now the work place really does flow and is way easier to handle just like what it said for the third flattener.

  5. http://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/congressional-data-may-soon-be-easier-to-use-online/2012/06/08/gJQAdikBNV_story.html

This article, ‘Congressional data may soon be easier to use online’ is about Congress making the decision to use the XML format in order to speed-up the release of data. The program XML and the similar one, SOAP, facilitates people because it allows them to be able to receive and access the same data as someone else, without having the same type of computer or phone.
This relates to the book because, as Friedman mentioned, the programs XML and SOAP allow people to be able to access the same information far more easily than was previously achievable.
